MIPA standard: Amy Roberts
Recently at mag we’ve had some amazing news. Our Head of Planning has achieved MIPA standard- many congratulations Amy!!!
Becoming an Accredited Member of the IPA (MIPA) is the advertising industry's most visible mark of professionalism. It's designed to put people on the same footing as architects, engineers and lawyers. And it's recognised and respected by clients, employers, headhunters and peers.
I asked Amy all about her journey below:
Do you want to give an overview of why you decided to become an MIPA and what that entailed?
So to become MIPA certified, you have to follow a qualifications-based programme of learning, as well as ensure you reach learning quotas for 3 years. I wanted to be MIPA certified for a few reasons - To show my dedication to the industry that I work in, to gain additional knowledge that is a set standard for us as an IPA agency, and also just to do it for myself and be proud of my achievements. I don’t have A Levels or a Degree, so I really wanted to challenge myself and gain qualified status.
What courses/qualifications did you complete?
I started with my Foundation Certificate (which I really believe everyone should do!), and then also completed my Commercial Essentials Certificate which offers a deeper understanding of fundamentals of agency and client business in a commercial sense. Over the past few months, I really wanted to learn more about management and business conduct, so I have completed a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate, as well as Advanced Leadership and Delegation.
It takes 3 years to become a Personal Member of the IPA (MIPA); that’s a long time! Did you find it challenging at times?
The courses definitely do require dedication, especially alongside your day to day work - however, the courses are spread over time, with the understanding that they are being done alongside having a full time job, so the IPA are very helpful in that respect. Time well spent, all in all!
What’s been a highlight of your journey to becoming an MIPA?
My highlight was gaining that last star to complete my MIPA and pass the grade - I received an email on an essay that I wrote reworded, and tweaked for hours (it’s been a while since I had to write an essay!), and I had passed with distinction with a mark of over 80% which I was so proud of!
Thanks Amy, and congratulations again, we hope you’re celebrating hard after all that hard work!
