Magnet #38

Welcome to another week of magnet- stay safe in the storm folks!

Enjoy.

Amazon:

Amazon revealed it spent $16.9 billion (£12.5 billion) on advertising in 2021. Business intelligence firm Group M global president Brian Wieser said “Amazon is likely the biggest advertiser in history based on the 10-K [annual report] data.”

Amazon spends around double the amount of their  closest rivals when it comes to advertising, with Procter & Gamble and Google (two of the world’s biggest advertising spenders) both spending in the region of $8 billion on their advertising expenses.

Amazon’s total marketing costs, (which include wages and sales commission for cloud platform Amazon Web Services) rose 48% to $32.6bn in 2021.

One of their latest campaigns is for Amazon Prime Video’s Rings of Power.  It’s been more than four years after Amazon Prime Video first acquired the rights to make a series based on The Lord of the Rings, and the company finally unveiled its first 60 second trailer from the show on the Super Bowl 56 last Sunday. The  creative debuted globally in 18 languages at the same time the Super Bowl ad aired.

The trailer that aired at the Super Bowl is the next chapter in a months-long marketing campaign leading up to the September premiere.

Client news: Trentham Monkey forest &  The Late Late Show

We’re working with our client, Trentham Monkey Forest on increasing brand awareness. Last week they brought in a Marvin Gaye impersonator, whose real name is Dave Largie, to sing Marivn’s greatest hits and encourage the park’s 140 Barbary macaques to “get it on."

The video was then featured in The Daily Mail, The Daily star, NME amongst others, but most surprising is that it was featured on James Corden’s The Late Late Show , which airs every weeknight night in the US. On the show,  James explains the story and comments with a smile,“a rather unusual way to encourage monkeys to mate.”

The Late Late Show was averaging 971,000 viewers in 2020-2021, Deadline found, which will surely bring good publicity to the forest.

Monkey Forest is home to 140 Barbay Macaques, who are sadly endangered, but the forest is committed to protecting them. See the clip here: https://twitter.com/latelateshow/status/1493824713168195584
