Christmas: Vodafone and ITV wish you a Happy Re-Boxing Day

Vodafone and ITV have partnered to rebrand Boxing Day as “Re-Boxing Day,” - an initiative to ask the nation to re-box their unwanted phones and laptops as part of the brand’s mission to tackle digital poverty and give the ‘gift of connection’ to those in need of devices.

British homes contain more than £20 billion worth of unused technology – including old smartphones, laptops and tablets – according to new research from Vodafone.

The study found that the average home has old tech worth approximately £813.90 lying around, which equates to unused devices worth £20 billion, across the 26.3 million households in the country with access to connectivity.

And with one-in-three people expecting to receive at least one tech gift this Christmas, and thousands expected to hit the Boxing Day sales to buy themselves new gadgets, these numbers are set to rise.

So, Vodafone has launched its ‘ReBoxing Day’ campaign, to encourage the UK to donate its old tech and return Boxing Day to its original purpose – a day of giving.

 Campaigns: Guinness

This  Christmas, Pubs have fallen on hard times with the new variant, but Guinness are eager to step in and show that there is light at the end of the year. Alongside donating £30 million to keep pubs open, Guinness is Illuminating 22 pubs across the UK with dazzling Christmas lights to celebrate the festive period.

The Metaverse x Nike

Nike has acquired RTFKT, (which specialises in making virtual trainers and other accessories) , as it looks to strengthen its digital footprint.

The virtual fashion brand was founded in 2020 and uses game engines, NFTs, blockchain and augmented reality to create virtual products and experiences.

Nike’s CEO and president John Donahoe says the acquisition is will accelerate the sportswear giant’s digital transformation and allow it to “serve athletes and creators at the intersection of sport, creativity, gaming and culture”.

The terms of the deal were not be disclosed. We’ll be discussing more of the recent developments in the Metaverse come 2022, so keep an eye out for that!
