Get to know our new social media manager Callum Dunn!
Hey Callum, welcome to the team! Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Well, I was born & raised in Blackburn, therefore I have the world’s broadest accent. I especially love football & support Blackburn Rovers (unfortunately). If we’re ever going for food, I’m a Salt & Pepper chicken kind of guy, preferably with a Peroni in the other hand.
What was it that made you want to join the MAG team?
Having seen MAG on social, they looked a great company to work for. They had an impressive portfolio of clients & it’s clear they really invest in growing their clients and looking after their team.
I have only been here a matter of weeks – but I can already feel and see there’s a great atmosphere within the office & I can’t wait to see how things progress.
So, tell us a little about your role within the team?
I’ve joined the team as a Paid Social Media Manager, which means I’ll be working across all our digital clients, helping them with their paid social strategies. As part of the larger social team, we work on building & optimizing campaigns daily to help our clients achieve their targets, whether that be clicks, ROAS, brand building or more!
Have you always worked in Social Media?
Not necessarily social, but I have always worked in the digital industry (coming up to 8 years now). I started out copywriting in a digital agency, which is where I started to dabble in social media & SEO. From here I worked in multiple in-house companies for brands like Betfred & Footasylum where I managed their social media formats, from paid to organic.
How do you find working in the agency world compared to working in-house?
I find working in an agency to be a more exciting and faster paced role, as you are always working with multiple clients, across a variety of industries which all face their own unique challenges. From working on such a wide spectrum of clients, it allows us to build a library of learnings that can be adapted & applied to future campaigns. This also comes with the added motivation to become an expert in the latest digital formats and trends, to be able to provide the best options for our clients.
What do you find is the main difference between the two?
I would say the main difference between working in-house compared to an agency would be the general day to day tasks. In-house you are working on one brand, which you can invest all your time on building. However, this also means you are limited in learnings & creative can become a little stagnant. Compare this to an agency, and although you don’t have the same time-scales, you do have the insights, the industry knowledge & a larger team meaning a new fresh perspective.
Last but not least, having experienced both sides, have you got any tips for people in-house choosing to work with an agency?
When choosing an agency, I would recommend getting to know the team you’ll be working with. It is key for you get on & trust this team with your campaigns. Look for an agency that offers great client services, whether you want weekly calls, quarterly reviews etc. This is important as you’ll need to work together with your digital team as they plan and continuously optimize campaigns on your behalf.
